Total Control by David Baldacci

>> Monday, April 9, 2007

I’m a late arrival to the party when it comes to David Baldacci’s books. This is his second book and my second of his that I’ve read. This is also my 4th book for the TBR Challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed this complicated twisty turning thriller. Sidney Archer is a wife, mother and attorney who finds herself smack in the middle of a dangerous mystery. The plane her husband was scheduled to take has crashed, but beyond dealing with her grief over his death, she finds herself searching for answers. Was her husband responsible for the sabotage of the plane? why is she learning all sorts of things that he’d apparently lied to her about? Who can she trust?

FBI agent Lee Sawyer, charged with the investigation of the plane sabotage finds his case expanding and soon he is asking the same questions as Sid Archer.

Some of the technology and internet discussion in the book is a bit dated – 11 years is forever in terms of changes in that realm, but that didn’t keep me from enjoying the book. This one was definitely a page turner and seemed to be much shorter than the nearly 700 pages it was, because it moved so fast and kept me wanting to ‘just finish this one more chapter’.

I have had Baldacci on my TBR list for a long time but he keeps getting bumped. This sounds like a good one to start with.

Thanks for the review!

I think I've read just about everything Baldacci has written. I like his style.

I LOVE Baldacci and read everything by him. I am so exited that his next book is out at the end of the month. You can't go wrong with Baldacci.

Happy reading!

I thought I'd read this, but it was Absolute Power, not Total Control. Very good. Better than the movie, but that's usually the case.

Have you read Wish You Well? It's a bit of a departure for Baldacci -- very lyrical and quite nice. Kind of like Grisham's A Painted House. I like to see these authors branch out a bit and get away from their formulaic stories.

I see that your about to read voyager. booklogged just reviewed it! I enjoyed the gabaldon series though found that post book 4 it was not great.

Amy: I've read his first two so fare and really enjoyed both.

Lynne: I remember you mentioning that. You're one of the reasons I finally started reading his books. Thanks!

Alexis: Thanks for stopping by.

Les: I read Absolute Power last year and promptly passsed it along to my husband. We saw the movie, but the book was so much better. I'm planning on reading his in the order they were published (I'm kind of a nut about that), so I'll eventually get to Wish You Well.

Nessie: Actually Voyager is a re-read. I read the first 4 of that series years ago and decided to to back and re-read before moving on through the series.

I love Baldacci for fast, suspenseful read. I think the first one I read of his was Absolute Control (I hope that's right) and I was mesmerized. Like Ludlum, he just captures the reader.

Bellezza - he definitely does. This one had me hooked riht from the first couple of pages.

I read all of Baldacci's books years ago and loved them. Somehow I was pulled away and never read Wish You Well or anything his written recently. He knows how to pack in the suspense. One of my favorites was about the woman who won a lottery or something like that, can't remember the name.

I just watched a Clint Eastwood movie called "Absolute Power" last night. The end credits showed that it's based on a novel by Baldacci. I thought I might like to read it. And now, today, I'm reading blogs and running into his name everwhere. Strange. I have one my coworker gave me that I've never read called Wish You Well.

It sounds like I'll have to give this author a try -- I keep seeing his name everywhere too!

I haven't read any of Baldacci's books for quite some time. I just like saying his name, but the books are good too. I just started reading The Outlander. Gabaldon must be really good for you to do a re-read. I look forward to your review.

Booklogged: I've read his first two now, and will definitely read more. I'll be looking forward to the lottery one. You and I have such similar tastes in books, I'm sure I'll like it.

Bybee: Oh I saw the movie years ago and the book was so much better. Don't let having seen the movie keep you from reading the book.

Tristi: The two I've read so far have been good and I've put both of them in my husband's 'you need to read these' stack.

Framed: Hope you like Outlander. It's not a series for everyone. Folks tend to either get sucked in or never finish the first book.
