Critters on vacation
>> Thursday, August 13, 2009
We saw a variety of critters last week when we were on vacation at the Oregon coast.
So you're looking at this picture and thinking critter? what critter? This is the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport, OR. If you look closely below the left end of the main arch you'll see a large bird.

To be more specific, it's this guy. An Osprey. He was just sitting there watching the boats and people go by.

Closer to the house where we stayed, the roof next door is a nesting spot for a pair of seagulls. This year there was only one baby. He was about a month old.

Guess who came to dinner (every night between 5 and 6) and got rather annoyed when we didn't produce dinner?

Partway through the week, the baby from the roof next door ended up on our deck.

It's a big scary world out there when you're a little seagull.

This one started out as a picture of the flower, but the bee decided it was time for a bee portrait.

No stars – I couldn’t even finish it
1 star – I didn’t like it but I managed to finish it.
2 stars – It was OK. Not good, but seriously just OK.
3 stars - I liked it. I didn’t think it was great, but I thought it was good entertainment.
4 stars – I really liked it. I really think you might like it too.
5 stars – It was amazing. I’d recommend this to just about anyone.

I love these!!! Please tell me the baby seagull got back where he was supposed to be...
El: thanks! I can't believe how that bee on the hydrangea picture turned out - that one was extra lucky. As for the little guy, we don't know for sure. His parents kind of herded him down toward the rocky part of the shoreline and one around the other side of the bluff. We didn't see him again after that.
I don't believe I've ever seen a baby seagull! What a treat to have him visit you.
Great shot of the bridge.
I miss Oregon!
I love that baby gull photo!
Les: the house we usually rent has a pair of seagulls that nest on the roof of the next house every year. They usually hatch around the first part of July so for 3 years now we've had babies to watch when we've been there in late July or early August. It's fun.
Care: isn't he adorable?
Awwww! Excellent photos! I've never seen a baby seagull before. Did you pony up any grub for him?
= D
Vickie: no, his parents were very nervous - I think he left the safety of the roof next door too soon. We never feed the seagulls - once you do, they won't leave you alone.
