Voting turned out to be funny

>> Friday, October 22, 2010

We live in a state where it's all vote by mail for all elections. In our case it's vote by dropping our ballots in the box at the library because why waste a stamp when I'm at the library anyway.

We usually end up filling out our ballots at the same time so that we can have the voter's pamphlet and all the paperwork out and then gather up what we're done with and get it to the recycling bin all at once.

Then I take our ballot envelopes to drop off at the library the next day.

The other night we were both filling out our ballots and The Hubster got down to the measure that requested a four year renewal of the current library levy.

The Hubster kind of giggled and said "Continue to pay for the libraries? Heck YES! It saves me money!!!"

I just about spit the water I was drinking all over the table.

I told him "Yup! what we pay for the library levy is way less than your wife would spend on books without the library, isn't it?"  So far this year of the books I've read 37 have been from the library and 24 are books I've purchased.  We definitely get our money's worth out of our libraries.

I love my libraries.

Okay, had to remove comment #1 because my editor took a mini-break....

BUT...

There is nothing about this blog entry that I do not love!!

I need to use my library better. I used to be a regular, but then I started buying books instead. I can't call it a waste of money just not the wisest use of it.

I hope that levy passes.

Eleanor: LOL - that first comment came through and I was confused -thanks for getting your editor back from break ;-)

Framed: I'm incredibly lucky that I pass two brances of our home county library between my house and the park and ride lot I go to 3 days a week. Convenience combined with a fabulous library system is hard to beat.

Vickie: I'm hopeful that it will pass. Historically my county has been very supportive of the libraries. It kind of feeds on itself - if the system is well managed and useful to the community the community will support it, but without the community support it won't be well run and useful. We're pretty lucky to have both a good library system and a supportive community.

Nice to find a another Portland-area book blogger ! I also dropped my ballot off at the library as well.
As you might guess by my own book blog, the vast majority of my featured books came from the Multnomah County Library !
Nice blog you have ! Keep up the good work !!
