Confessions of a Serial Reader – The new ones on the list

>> Friday, February 25, 2011

When I signed up and listed all my series books at FictFact, the count of active series stood at 62 when I was done. There’s not much chance of that number staying steady . I am making an effort to get caught up in some of my series, but it doesn’t keep me from adding more that I want to read to the list.

It’s time to update the list and ‘fess up to the new current active series number.

Images and links are to the first book in the series

Series I’ve added and started:

Kenzie/Gennaro by Dennis Lehane

Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Gideon Crew by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

Series I’ve added but not started yet:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

Emma Caldridge by Jamie Freveletti

Holmes on the Range by Steve Hockensmith

Pendergast by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

Ellie Hatcher by Alafair Burke

What about you? What series have you started recently? After all what I really need is ideas for more series to add to my list, right?

Do you prefer to start a series while it's still fairly new? Does a series with a pre-existing backlist intimidate you or make you hesitate to read it?

I almost forgot - the new number for My Current and Planned Series is

Am I nuts? Probably but I love series books.

I'm tempted by the Percy Jackson series, but I think if I'm going to get through any young adult series, I better finish Harry Potter (I know, the shame of it that I haven't finished this series!). I'm with you on Sherlock Holmes too.

As for new series, I just picked up Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs, the start of the Bones series. Other than that, I'm also working on Sherlock Holmes this year...oh, one another one, I might mention is the Omar Yussef mystery series by Matt Beynon Rees. I've only read first two, but hope to get back to them soon.

Everyone raves about the percy jackson series so I just started the first book on audio book. So far it's ok. Wondering if it might be better reading it.

I love FictFact, just found it about a month ago and am actually surprised about how many series I do follow. I am also finding some old favorites.

Unfinishedperson: I've actually had the first of the Percy Jackson books for a while, but wanted to wait until I finished listening to all the Harry Potter series and the Peter and the Starcatchers series first. Now that those are done, I'm looking forward to something along those lines soon. I've read a couple of the Reichs books and enjoyed them, but haven't picked one up in a while. You're part of the reason I picked up Sherlock Holmes - your posts got me motivated. Oh I haven't heard of the Omar Yussef series - will have to check it out.

Kailana: FictFact really is a wonderful site - the emails when a new book in a series you're following is coming up or released is really helpful.

Debbie: I thought about audio for the Percy Jackson series but decided to go with the books.

Carey: isn't it a great resource?

70? (Cue a very unladylike snort.) My list of series at FictFact is well over 200! LOL Backlists don't intimidate me in the slightest. Just call me the Series Junkie.

Cathy: Ha!! and that's exactly why you're one of my best sources of recommendation for new to me series!!

Thanks for reading. Feel free to leave a comment. I read and respond them here although not always right away. If you would prefer an email response let me know.
