Confessions of a Serial Reader – The ones I've added in 2012
>> Friday, March 16, 2012
This month I’m talking about the new series I’ve added to my FictFact tracking so far in 2012
I’ve mentioned it before but if you read a lot of series books you really should check out FictFact. It’s a great way to keep track of what you’ve read, what’s next and what new books are on the horizon. It’s a little scary to really see the number of series I’ve read or started but I love using FictFact to keep track.
I was on the site earlier this week updating a few books I’ve read and adding some new series I’ve started. I realized I’d added several in 2012 so far.
Newly added but not new to my series reading:
The Rob Ryan and Cassie Maddox series by Tana French

I actually started this series a couple of years ago and the second book is sitting on my bookshelf. For some reason I never added it to my FictFact list until a few weeks ago. Now I need to get that second book read.
Newly added but started in 2011:
Both of these series have several books out in their original language but are just now getting translated and becoming available in the US.
The Department Q series by Jussi Adler-Olsen

Both The Hubster and I read and enjoyed this first book in the series and are eagerly awaiting the release date of the second book. Fun characters, interesting setting and interesting premise. We both keep saying “Assad has secrets!”
The Hanne Wilhelmsen series by Anne Holt

Not only has this series been well established in its original language, the first to be translated and available here in the US is actually the eighth in the series. I enjoyed it and will be watching for more of this series to be translated and released. Hanne Wilhelmses is a bit of a crusty and cranky detective and the hints of her past in this eighth book have me interested in reading the others.
Newly added and started in 2012:
The Raylan Givens series by Elmore Leonard

The Hubster and I are avid fans of the TV series Justified which is based on the character of Raylan Givens so we wanted to read the books. We’ve both read and liked this first one and we’ll be reading the others.
The Frieda Klein series by Nicci French

This is a new series and only this first one is out so far. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next one. The main character is an intriguing psychologist and I’m hoping that some of the secondary characters in the first book will be recurring characters as the series progresses.
The Kate Conway series by Clare O'Donohue
The second book in this series will be out soon and I’m already on the library waiting list for it. The main character is a TV producer who is a bit of an amateur sleuth. It’s a good and interesting mix for me.
What about you? Have you checked out FictFact yet? Have you added any new series to your reading list this year?

No stars – I couldn’t even finish it
1 star – I didn’t like it but I managed to finish it.
2 stars – It was OK. Not good, but seriously just OK.
3 stars - I liked it. I didn’t think it was great, but I thought it was good entertainment.
4 stars – I really liked it. I really think you might like it too.
5 stars – It was amazing. I’d recommend this to just about anyone.

I love FictFact and I love how they notify you when new books in your series are coming out! The only one I follow that I haven't added to FictFact is the Jack Reacher series because they are all so much alike I don't actually know which ones I've read and which I haven't! LOL
I'm starting to be disappointed that I didn't read BLUE MONDAY, seems like everyone likes it!
I love using Fictfact. It took me a while to get it all in order, but now it is so worth it!
I just started Faithful Place, the third in the Dublin Murder Squad. It's a better name, since each book seems to focus on a different cop.
I've got 1222 on request at the library.
I've added a few new series to my series Goals as well. I just about have a few caught up, until the next book comes out this year!
I've never heard of FIctFact, but am going to check it out right now! I have so many series on the go, this will be a fun way to keep track of them! thanks for the tip.
As for new series added this year:
1)Ann Cleeves - Jimmy Peron series (4 books in the series, I just got book 2
2)The Spellman Files - Lisa Lutz
3) Linda Castillo - Kate Burkholder, Amish series
4)Lin Anderson - Rhona MacLeod series
5) Mind's Eye - Hakan Nesser Chief Inspector Van Veeteren series
That's to start with...I have a whole lot of 'firsts' in series on my shelves too to read!
Wow, you really have added a lot for 2012!
You've caused my serial reading list to grow! Can I return the favor? I highly recommend Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series. The first book is Still Life. Wonderful series!
RhapsogyinBooks: LOL some series are like that. Luckily I did have a spreadsheet I was using for my series tracking before I found FictFact.
Jen: Blue Monday was one that I ended up liking more than I thought at the beginning. It's VERY slow to build and I nearly abandoned it in the first third of it but ended up glad I stuck with it. I ended up liking it well enough to watch for the next book.
Kailana: Yeah - it took me a while to get everything up to date with FictFact but as you can see I forgot to add the Tana French series.
Raidergirl: Oh The Dublin Murder Squad is a MUCH better name for that series. FictFact and FantastivFiction both need to get on board with that name instead of what they're using. I'm glad you're going to read 1222 - I liked that one a lot.
Susan: I hope you do check out FictFact - it's a great site. Of your series I've read the first two of Linda Castillo's but haven't read the others. I do have the first Spellman Files book on my nook.
Amy: Yeah it kind of worries me that I've added this many by mid-March.
Booklogged: LOL - payback, huh? I have read and LOVED the Inspector Gamache series. I've been listening to the audio versions and they're wonderful. I'm actually current with that series and watching for the next one to become avalialbe at my library.
I love Tana French and can not wait for her upcoming release this summer. I can't remember if I signed up for FictFact. Off to check and see!
