Weekend Update April 1, 2012

Since my last update:
I finished The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan. It’s a story that begins with 39 people in a lifeboat just as their passenger ship is sinking in 1914. It was quite interesting. I’ll have a full post about it up on Tuesday.
I read a short story by Marcia Clark that features Rachel Knight who is the main character in her mystery series. I liked her first book and am eager to read the second in this series. I’ll be reviving the now occasional Short Story Monday tomorrow to tell you more about this story.
I started Threat Warning by John Gilstrap. It’s the third book in his Jonathan Grave series about a team that takes on high risk hostage rescue operations. It’s good suspense thriller type reading and The Hubster and I both enjoy this series.
Mu current audiobook remains Dog Tags by David Rosenfelt. The Hubster is currently listening to the previous book in this series so we end up talking about the books and characters quite often these days. He’s enjoying Grover Gardner’s reading of this series too. His Marcus cracks us both up.
Other than books and reading:
Today is April 1st so I’ve kicked of my official participation in the April Photo a Day challenge. The photos will be posted over at Whimpulsiveness if you want to follow along.
Last night we had my belated birthday celebration. This year instead of a gift of a thing I asked for a gift of an experience. We went to dinner at Beast. They serve a six course dinner and wine pairing that is priced beyond our normal Birthday dinner out budget so this year it was my present. The restaurant is a tiny place (seats about 30 people) with communal tables and an open kitchen. Watching each course prepared is part of the entertainment.
Click on the photo to see the menu – it was all just amazing. Unfortunately the combination of iphone and dark restaurant doesn’t make for great photos.
Those of you who have watched Top Chef Masters might recognize the chef (on the far left).
Naomi Pomeroy is a nominee for the 2012 Best Chef, Northwest James Beard Foundation Award. This truly felt like Top Chef dining. Everything was amazing.
I can’t let the week go by without a gratuitous Abby photo.
Hope you’re having a great weekend.

No stars – I couldn’t even finish it
1 star – I didn’t like it but I managed to finish it.
2 stars – It was OK. Not good, but seriously just OK.
3 stars - I liked it. I didn’t think it was great, but I thought it was good entertainment.
4 stars – I really liked it. I really think you might like it too.
5 stars – It was amazing. I’d recommend this to just about anyone.

I just discovered The Lifeboat last night at Barnes and Noble. I was debating whether to buy it or not, I didn't. Looking forward to your review.
I went to Beast a few years ago. The food was really good. I'd love to go back. That scallop dish sounds delicious.
Neat birthday gift! I'm going to quietly participate in the April photography challenges but not necessarily share them, just yet. I was a little horrified that the first assignment was "your reflection" and my image is similar, since I don't like pictures of myself.
Love gratuitous Abby photos! She's such a doll!
Melissa: Lifeboat was interesting - one of those that will be a good book club book for the discussions it will generate.
Linda: The scallop dish was one of my favorites. Of course, everything was wonderful.
Bookfool: it really was a wonderful Birthday gift. Hope you're having fun with the April photo a day challenge. Abby is very photogenic and funny so you'll be seeing a lot of her.
