Weekend Update July 1, 2012

Since my last update:
I finished reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I love the way she can get me to enjoy a book even though I don’t like the characters. I think in her books it’s not that I want to connect with any of the characters, it’s more a desire to puzzle them out and figure out why they do the crazy things they do.
I also finished Hannah’s List by Debbie Macomber. It would be hard to find a book more different from Gone Girl than a Debbie Macomber book. Maybe that’s why it was good to bounce back and forth between those two at the same time.
I’m now reading Gold by Chris Cleave. I enjoyed his Little Bee quite a bit and while this one is quite different there are some stylistic similarities. The story takes place within the world of world class competitive bike racing (as in the sprints and pursuits in a velodrome not in the Tour de France style) and I’m finding that quite interesting.
I’m also reading The Blind Goddess by Anne Holt. Last year 1222, the 8th book in her Hanne Wilhelmsen series about an Norwegian detective was released in the US. I liked it a lot. Now the first book in that series is out and it’s just as good. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series becoming available here.
I’m continuing to swap books every 50 pages or nearest chapter break. I tried that over vacation and so far it seems to be a good method for me. It suits the times I have a short attention span and I’m liking the variety in my reading.
As for my audiobook, I’m back to listening to The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection by Alexander McCall and enjoying listening to Lisette Lecat.
Other than books and reading:
Why does the first week back at work after vacation seem to be at least eight work days long? I was so glad to make it to Friday this week.
Yesterday we went to the North American Organic Brewers Festival.
- Acai Berry Wheat by Eel River Brewing
- Honey Basil Ale by Bison Brewing
- Alphabetically Above Average Amber Ale by Natian Brewery
Howie and Abby didn’t go to the beer festival but they’re getting along well these days.

Hope you’re having a great weekend.

Anne Holt? That doesn't sound Norweigan. :) I am reading through one of her countrymen's series, the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo. The first and second one have yet to come out in the U.S. and the latest one arrives in the U.S. this fall. I, for one, can't wait....but in the meantime I'll have to search out this Anne Holt. :)
haha, I love how Abby looks up at the camera at the end of the video. :) I did watch it without sound, though, so maybe someone said something to her? Cute, though. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your 4th celebrations. :)
RE: Gone Girl
I love the way she can get me to enjoy a book even though I don’t like the characters.
Isn't that the truth! I didn't care for either of the main characters, but still loved the book. I can't wait to read her other two.
I think I saw the tents for the Oregon Brewers Festival when I was in Portland last year. Had my husband not been buried in work back at the hotel, I would've liked to have gone. Maybe we'll try the Organic festival instead.
UnfinishedPerson: It may not sound Norwegian, but she is. She worked for the Oslo Police Department, had a law practice and was the Norwegian Minister of Justice. You really need to check out the series.
Kailana: she's so funny. Nope i didn't say anything - just let her play.
Les: It's amazing isn't it. I usually can't get around uniikeable carachters but with Gillian Flynn, it works. I would love it if you came out for the Organic Brewers Festival!
