Whimpulsive: Weekend Update July 7, 2012

Since my last update:
This first week or so of July is always a busy one for us. Two family events mean that my reading time suffers but I’m hoping to be back to normal reading volume next week.

I’m still reading the same two books I was when I posted my last update on Sunday. I’m enjoying both Gold by Chris Cleave and The Blind Goddess by Anne Holt. They’re very different and that works well when I’m alternating between two books..

On audio I finished listening to The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection by Alexander McCall. This is the 13th in this series and I still enjoy the audio productions and the masterful narration by Lisette Lecat.

I’ve just started listening to Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess). It’s read by the author and I can tell you right now that this book is going to get me stared at. I do my audiobook listening when I’m driving by myself and other drivers are going to stare because I’m laughing out loud when I’m all alone in the car. I’ve already warned The Hubster that I’m going to try to make him listen to this.

Other than books and reading:
As I said earlier, early July is family BBQ time for us. July 4th we always get together with The Hubster’s side of the family. My side of the family has their annual BBQ is later today.

We spent the Fourth of July at my Sister-in-law’s place. She is everything I have no hope of being as a gardener. She even has these cute little markers in her garden.

She’s also got these wonderful birdhouses in the remains of a tree she had to have cut.

She even turned a big old dirt pile on her property into a practice golf hole!

It’s good that there’s someone in the family who does this stuff because it’s definitely not going to be me.

As usual Abby’s making a weekend appearance. The Hubster is working with her on her soccer goalie skills. We’re going to sign her up for the 6 and under team as a goalie.

I know this photo is out of focus but I still love the way it captures Abby watching the fireworks people were setting off in the park behind our house.
