Where in the World Are You Reading is a monthly themed Meme jointly hosted by Trish at Love, Laughter and a Touch of Insanity, Lisa at Books. Lists. Life. and Kailana at The Written World.
Click on any of the links for the posta that explain the details of the Meme. It's never too late to join in so please consider doing so.
The theme for July is Your Local Bookstore so this post is about my local bookstore. You can see the other posts for this month at this post on Trish's blog.
I'm lucky enough to live in Portland which is the home of Powell's Books. I love Powell's and I did a post last year about their famous downtown location Powell's City of Books. However when I shop for books I typically shop at Powell's location in Beaverton at Cedar Hills Crossing because I live in the western suburbs of Portland and it's much closer to my home and my regular shopping route.

This is a 'smaller' store than the downtown Powells' but small is most definitely a relative term. While small in terms of Powell's it's downright huge compared to many bookstores I have visited.
Does your local bookstore come with a map?: Even though unlike the main Powell's store this one is all on one level, it's still sometimes difficult to locate the shelf numvber the in store lookup computer points you to.
I love Powell's. I'm there on a regular basis. Sometimes it's just to browse, other times I'm on a mission. Sometimes I'm there to sell my books back.
One thing I appreciate about Poeell's is that as a local Portland resitdent I can order a book from their website and have it sent to the Cedar Hills store to pick up with no shipping costs.
This is just one aisle of my favorite section.
Many booklovers who visit Portland area make a trip to the downtown Powell's but I can usually be found at their Cedar Hills Crossing location.

During one of my recent trips to Portland I made it a point to visit ALL of the Powells locations and Cedar Hills was definitely one of my favorites. It is large enough in that it had quite a selection but not too large in that I felt I got overwhelmed/lost.
I love Powell's and spent a lot of time at the location in Beaverton, which has moved I can see. Did they take over the spot that Borders was in or is that just an informational sign? I spent a lot of time at that particular Borders too, but I can't remember the setup inside. Thanks for showing us your local bookstore! I was telling someone that is moving to Seattle soon about Powell's. I told her that Powell's alone is a good reason to visit Portland. Don't you agree? LOL
I've only been to the downtown location, but it's the reason Portland is on my list of favorite cities!
I really want to go to Powell's. I have never been! Great post and thanks for joining in!
This bookstore is wonderful!

I remember years ago when there was a big blogger meet up at Powell's. I was so jealous! Were you there? This reminds me a lot of the big Half Price Books in Dallas but they only sell used books so it can be tough to find newer things, thanks for sharing with us!!!
That's a massive bookstore (to me anyway)! And I like the fact it's new AND used books - is that common?
I'm loving all these local bookstore posts - I don't think I'll ever be tired of checking out new-to-me stores.
You're so lucky! I wish there was a bookstore like Powell's around here!
Oh my, you've got to love a bookstore that needs a map! Although since my B&N keeps rearranging, I kind of wish they had one and they aren't nearly as big. Love to order books from Powells!
Someday I WILL visit Powell's - your 'condensed' branch looks larger than any bookstore around here, lol!
